Former German player Andrea Petkovic believes that America’s Madison Keys will be a tough opponent to face for any player if she manages to go past the second round of the Indian Wells. The WTA 1000 event will be played from March 05-16 where some of the top-name players will participate to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize.

America’s Keys recently secured the biggest prize of her professional career as she lifted her first Grand Slam title — the Australian Open — after beating the reigning world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the final with a score of 6–3, 2–6, 7–5, is set to return to the court after more than a month’s break as she will feature in the Indian Wells.

Former German player Petkovic has been recently quoted in a report by The Tennis Gazette where she stated that Keys will be a dangerous opponent for anyone if she manages to go past the first couple of rounds. “I honestly think if she gets through the first two rounds, she will be very dangerous,” said Petkovic. “I do think for these type of players who hit the ball so hard in Indian Wells, the first two rounds are very difficult. The ball flies, and the thing that we all get wrong, all the professional tennis players in the world, you think you have to then decelerate, because the ball is flying, and you have to accelerate. And if she can figure that out in the first two rounds, she will be very dangerous at Indian Wells.”

This year, world number two Poland’s Iga Swiatek will defend her crown in the competition. She lifted the title last year after beating Greece’s Maria Sakkari in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-0. Keys had a rather disappointing outing last year, where she was knocked out after losing in the third round to Yulia Putintseva in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-1.
