Sofia Kenin had a decent return at the Indian Wells Masters beating compatriot Sloane Stephens in round one and playing fairly close with Elena Rybakina.

The former Australian Open champion lost to Elena Rybakina in a very close and competitive affair which garnered her praise from former player Rennae Stubbs. The Australian saw many positives in this outing for Kenin as she demonstrated that she's not that far off from the best in the sport.

The former player also noted the very apparent positive impact of former coach of Maria Sharapova Michael Joyce who is working with Kenin now. The American had a breakout season a couple of years ago winning the Australian Open and getting to the French Open final. Injuries have since slowed down her career but she's been working hard on a comeback.

Stubbs tweeted:

"Awesome to see @SofiaKenin making a match of this. Shows you how close she still is to the best. Great to see @mikejoyce73 coaching her too. Going to make a big difference."
