Simona Halep has had a tremendous career and it's highlighted by the fact that she has, as of now, made over 40 million in career prize earnings.
Halep played some of the best tennis she played all season long in Montreal last week to race to the final where she beat Beatriz Haddad Maia. It gave her the first trophy this year returning her to the top 10. Halep nearly walked away from tennis last year but after partnering up with Patrick Mouratoglou, she rediscovered her passion for the game.
The trophy in Montreal is proof of that and a product of months of hard work. It further gave her $439,700 which pushed her career total prize earnings to $40,107,097. She became the 3rd player ever to hit that mark after
Serena Williams and
Venus Williams. There is a good chance she will catch Venus Williams who made a little over 42 million but Serena's mark of 94 million seems impossible. Not only for her but for any player.
After winning Montreal, she said:
“When I started the year I was not very confident and I set the goal to be, at the end of the year, Top 10. And here I am. So it's very special moment. I will enjoy it. I will give myself credit. I'm just dreaming for more.”
