Simona Halep announced on her social media that she has ended her working relationship with longtime coach Daren Cahill.
Simona Halep and Darren Cahill started working six years ago and the relationship was a very successful one for both. Cahill guided Halep to several Grand Slam titles improving her game overall and leading her to become one of the best tennis players on the tour. They enjoyed a close friendship as well and they became one of the best known player-coach pairings on the Tour.
However, recently the results have not been too good. Halep has struggled with results ever since the pandemic hit and the Romanian player rarely ever flashed some of the tennis she played in years past. 2021 was mostly lost due to injuries and a combination of all of that probably prompted Halep to terminate the relationships.
She wrote:
"After six wonderful years working together, Darren Cahill and I have decided that it’s time to end our working relationship.
Thank you D for everything, for making me a better tennis player and a better person."
The announcement should not come as a shock to many of her most dedicated fans as clearly something wasn't working anymore as Halep tries to rebuild her form for the rest of the season and future in general.
