Daniil Medvedev won the US Open 2021 and his fellow Laver Cup teammate Stefanos Tsitsipas was complimentary of the Russian in an interview with Greek TV.
Medvedev and Tsitsipas have had a rocky relationship on the Tour so far which started with a verbal clash on the court a few years ago. The players have since cooled down in their animosity towards each other even complimenting each other's game and performances and Tsitsipas did the same once more. While discussing the US Open with Greek TV he said:
"I would not say Medvedev's game is boring; I would say it is one-dimensional. It surprises me that, with that kind of tennis, he manages to achieve what he has achieved. Medvedev is very consistent, a very tough opponent."
The comment might seem critical but Tsitsips simply spoke freely about what he thought of the Russians game. Hardly anyone can argue that the game posses much variety but the Russian brought his tennis to a very high level and Tsitsipas recognises that:
"He is best player at the moment; he proved it with his results."
It's hard to argue after such a dominant North American swing including the US Open. Tsitsipas also expressed his belief that he is one of the best but he will need to prove it on the court:
"I consider myself as one of the best, but I also have to prove it on court."
