Aryna Sabalenka silenced Amanda Anisimova in a superb display befitting of the World No.1 on Sunday. She next faces
Zheng Qinwen and the mission is very simple, getting revenge from Rome.
The only blot on her copybook in recent months has been a loss to Zheng Qinwen at the Rome Open. She was defeated 6-4, 6-3. Likely it is presumed that Qinwen will be the toughest test for Sabalenka in her title tilt.
But she was pretty equivocal when it comes to what she wants out of this match and that is to gain revenge for Rome above anything else.
“It’s always tough matches against her. She’s a great player. Of course I expect a great battle. I’m super excited to face her in the quarterfinals. I want to get my revenge. Yeah, I want to get this win after Rome. I’m happy to face her in the Quarterfinals," said Sabalenka after her latest win.
But in addition, Sabalenka said that she was exhausted when they played in Rome which likely played a part and she is looking forward to facing her when she is more at full speed.
Anisimova for instance today has long been a bogey player for Sabalenka but she eased through in a statement win so the same will be wanted in this next tie.
“I have to say I was pretty exhausted in Rome. Honestly I was playing that tournament constantly thinking that I shouldn’t be playing. I needed a little rest before
Roland Garros. I think maybe because the courts are a little bit slower so she has a bit more time to prepare her shots. Now I’m fresh [smiling] and ready to go. I’m super excited to face her in the quarterfinals.”
The two biggest title favourites still remain in the draw amid all of the carnage and chaos and Zheng Qinwen will hope to hoist herself into that mix by defeating Sabalenka so the proof will certainly be in the pudding.
