Simona Halep was supposed to take on compatriot Cristian in the Linz semifinal today but she was forced to pull out before the match due to a knee injury.
Simona Halep completed a majestic comeback against Paolini yesterday narrowly avoiding a defeat in straight sets. However it did come with a price, and that price is a knee injury that forced her to abandon plans of playing the Linz semifinal today. The breaking news was shared by the event Twitter page with Halep confirming it on her own Twitter minutes later. She wrote:
"Unfortunately I am not able to play in my semifinal after injuring my knee in my match yesterday. I would do anything to be able to play, but it is swollen and painful and playing will only make it worse. I want to say a huge thank you to the tournament and fans here."
An unfortunate end for Halep who was looking en route to a possible final and trophy in Linz. We hope it's not serious and she recovers quickly and in time for the Australian Open.
