Sofia Kenin admits feeling nervous in Miami opener

After unsuccessful beginning of the season in Melbourne, Sofia Kenin will try to prove her qualities at the 2021 Miami Open

The young American played against Andrea Petkovic in the first round and it was obvious that she was nervous. Kenin lost the first set in the tie-break, however, she later put up a great performance to win the match in three sets.

But the 2020 Australian Open champion needs to improve her game if she wants to aim for another title. In the third round, she will be facing dangerous Ons Jabeur. After the match against Petkovic, Kenin spoke to reporters when she said:

"I'm obviously happy with this win. It feels nice to get the win after some time not being on court, playing at tournaments," Kenin told reporters after the match.

"It was very humid. I'm obviously used to this since I live here, but conditions weren't so easy, but I'm happy that it wasn't at least windy. I was able to somehow try to play my game.

"I felt a bit more nervous at the beginning, first match after having the surgery and everything. I just told myself, 'Keep fighting.' I'm just grateful that I'm able to play here because I really wanted to get ready for the Miami Open and just try and enjoy every minute out there."
