Sofia Kenin’s nightmare: Coco Gauff serves up double bagel in Miami Open blowout

It was an easy task for Coco Gauff, who defeated Sofia Kenin 6-0, 6-0 to advance to the Miami Open Round of 32. The world No. 3 faced what seemed to be a challenging early-round encounter against a former Grand Slam champion, but Kenin had a particularly erratic match.
Gauff delivered a flawless performance with a double bagel, not even needing to reach her best level to claim victory in just 48 minutes. Kenin left the court devastated after one of the worst defeats of her career.
Kenin crumbles as Gauff breezes through first set
The first set offered little competition, with Gauff breaking early and winning 10 of the first 12 points. Kenin had a glimpse of getting into the match with her first break point, but she couldn’t convert after a forehand error.
From that point on, Kenin grew increasingly erratic while Gauff strung together a series of points, securing a second break and racing to a 4-0 lead in just 15 minutes. In the closing stages, Kenin continued to rack up errors on both her backhand and forehand. Gauff didn’t need to do much to wrap up the set 6-0, winning 73% of her service points and 67% on return.
Kenin collapses as Gauff completes double bagel
There were no major changes in the second set, as Kenin not only kept missing but sent her shots far off the mark. The former Australian Open champion never found her rhythm, and despite landing 64% of her first serves, it meant little against Gauff’s consistency from the baseline.
The streak continued for Gauff, who secured two consecutive breaks and held her serve without trouble. An absolutely dominant display from the 2023 US Open champion, who sealed a commanding 6-0, 6-0 win on a nightmare day for Kenin.
In the Round of 32, Gauff awaits either Lucia Bronzetti or 28th seed Maria Sakkari — whom she already defeated in straight sets at the same stage of Indian Wells just a week ago.
