Tennis star Jessica Pegula announced her withdrawal from the Guadalajara Open Akron tournament, and it comes as no surprise due to the American's hectic schedule over the last eight months of the 2023 season.
The World No.5, who was coming off the biggest title of her career at the Canadian Open, fell to compatriot Madison Keys in the fourth round of the recently-concluded US Open. Several were shocked at the early exit, but it comes as no surprise when examining her schedule this season.
Dating back to January 2023, Pegula has competed in an astounding 111 matches. The 29-year old competed in 61 singles matches, 43 womens doubles matches and 7 mixed doubles matches.
With the Buffalo native still eying a spot at the year-ending WTA Finals, a well-earned break is in order as she prepares to finish the season on a strong note.
