The sky appears to be the limit for rising tennis star Ben Shelton, who achieved another milestone by reaching a new career-high on the ATP rankings table.
The 20-year old took New York by storm during the 2023 US Open, surpassing expectations as he reached the semifinals of the event as an unseeded player. Toppling the likes of Dominic Thiem, along with compatriots Tommy Paul and Frances Tiafoe, the young American fell to eventual champion Novak Djokovic in three mesmerizing sets.
The Atlanta native began his US Open campaign ranked just inside the Top 50, at a respectable World No.47. However, as he gathered more wins during the last Grand Slam of the season, Shelton also accrued more points. His run to the semifinal saw him eclipse last year's performance of a first-round exit, and with it an accumulation of ranking points that saw him break into the Top 20, sitting at World No.19.
In addition to achieving this milestone, Shelton also possess another distinction; that of being the highest-ranked tennis player in his household. His father Bryan, a former ATP professional, only ever peaked at World No.55, back in 1992.
