Elina Svitolina is among the wildcards for the Madrid Open which will allow her to play at the event without using her protected ranking to enter the draw.
Svitolina is currently playing lower-level events in order to play herself into good shape as she hopes to take part in bigger events in the coming weeks. Roland Garros is an obvious target but getting into the draw can be a problem because of her ranking. She can use the protected ranking option to enter events or she can get a wild card.
The second option happened for the Madrid Open as she was announced as one of the recipients of the wild card. It was announced on social media by the event itself.
