Elina
Svitolina shared a video using Adidas as her new sponsor for her match against
Venus Williams on Centre Court at
Wimbledon.
The
28-year-old athlete is gearing up for her debut at the All England Club against
the American legend, Venus Williams. While the spotlight has been on the 7-time
Grand Slam champion, Svitolina is also in the process of making a comeback to
the WTA tour after over a year of absence.
The
Ukrainian player decided to take a break for mental health reasons following
the start of the war in her country, and later became pregnant with her
daughter Skai, together with her husband, fellow tennis player Gael Monfils.
Upon her return at the 2023 Charleston Open, she appeared with her classic
sponsor Nike, but a little over a month later, she was seen sporting the
Ukrainian brand Paka at the Rome Open.
Although
there is no official confirmation, it seems almost certain that the former WTA
Finals champion would have a new agreement with the German brand Adidas, as she
posted a video on her social media showing herself on the Wimbledon courts
wearing an Adidas white dress.
Svitolina
will be wearing her new sponsor's clothing in her debut against the 5-time
Wimbledon champion, Venus Williams, on Centre Court. The 43-year-old North
American recently secured her first victory on the WTA tour in two years,
thanks to a great match in the first round of the Birmingham Open against
Camila Giorgi, although she fell in the second round to Jelena Ostapenko.
This will
be the fifth time Svitolina and Williams face each other, with three victories
for the Ukrainian and one for the former world No. 1. Their last encounter was
at the 2019 US Open, also resulting in a victory for Svitolina.
The former
world No. 3's best result was reaching the semifinals in 2019, where she lost
to eventual champion Simona Halep with a score of 6-1, 6-3.
