The 2023
Wimbledon Championships begin on Monday and security will be on high alert with the potential threat of Just Stop Oil attempting to make their mark on the tournament which former World No.1
Andy Murray believes will happen.
The group who have made their mark on multiple sporting events including the recent Ashes, the World Snooker Championship and football matches are supposedly set to target Wimbledon next.
While agreeing with their message, Murray believes they should go about it differently and said that like with the cricket bats, having tennis racquets depending on who is on court could spell a further disaster and could be dangerous.
In particular, Centre Court matches will likely have a higher police and security presence starting today when Novak Djokovic takes to the court at around 14:30 CET with their message to make as big of a statement as possible usually including visible orange paint which also gets their image broader coverage in newspapers.
Murray himself starts his campaign tomorrow when he faces fellow Brit, Ryan Peniston and given his status could play on Centre Court tomorrow so could yet be a target.
"I think there is probably a good chance of something happening," said Murray.
"I was talking about it with my family the other day. I don't know, if somebody ran onto the court and came towards you, what your reaction would be to that because you don't know who it is or what they are doing or why they are doing it.
"I didn't see what Jonny Bairstow did, but it could be dangerous. If they would attach themselves to the net or throw something onto the court - they have to be a bit careful going near to tennis players who obviously have got rackets in their hands."
The British tennis star added: "I agree with the cause - just not always how they go about expressing it. Rather than running on the court, maybe they could do it a different way."
