Monday sees the start of the third Grand Slam of the year as the 2023 Wimbledon Championships descend on the All England Lawn and Tennis Club.
The schedule is now confirmed for Day One which will be on Monday 3 July with a full slate of first round action which TennisUpToDate as usual will preview.
It all begins on Centre Court at 13:30 BST with the outside courts starting at 11 meaning by the time Novak Djokovic takes to the court, the first batch of winners will be confirmed.

Djokovic opens up as defending champion

As is tradition with Elena Rybakina set to do the same on Tuesday, Novak Djokovic as defending champion and seven times at that makes a familiar walk onto Centre Court to begin proceedings on Monday.

Looking for a record equalling eighth Grand Slam title and one that will put him further down the line in the so-called GOAT debate. It all begins against Pedro Cachin.
No head to head exists with Cachin mainly playing Challenger Tour this year so will likely be a routine win for the great Serbian.

Venus Williams and Sinner also star on Centre Court with top names playing on outside courts

The other two picks on Centre Court will raise debate with Venus Williams in potentially her final Wimbledon.
A question that gets asked every year and still at 43, she remains playing so merely a guess at this point.
The multiple champion will face a fellow returnee this season who also received a wildcard in Elina Svitolina. It was a superb clay court return for the Ukrainian who fell in her only grass court match against Linda Fruhvirtova.
Not having enough ranking points to get in by right, she was handed a wildcard and now the two high profile names will face off.
Jannik Sinner then ends off proceedings against Juan Manuel Cerundolo which is an interesting pick for multiple reasons.
Sinner is a question mark with all clear given after Halle but injury potentially still there.

Question marks on court allocations

While three matches that on any other given day would've been on Centre Court adorn Court One.
Those being World No.1 Iga Swiatek facing Lin Zhu. The Pole getting bumped down is no surprise realistically.
Many complained at Roland Garros that Swiatek who bagelled many of her opponents played formalities on the show courts so it is highly likely that planning has been dictated by that.
But still for Swiatek, it is a quick turnaround with illness at Bad Homburg seeing her withdraw. But instead of an extra day like Elena Rybakina who herself is still struggling, it will be straight to business.
A question mark surrounds Coco Gauff who is often like Kyrgios set for Centre Court with hype hoisted onto her from a young age and especially at Wimbledon where she made her breakout.
Instead it is Court No.1 facing Sofia Kenin in an intriguing tie as the Australian Open champion continues to try and make a comeback.

Kyrgios out on eve of the tournament

Nick Kyrgios was one of those set to play on Court One on the opening day but in a big blow to the organisers, the 2022 finalist withdrew on Sunday evening.
Kyrgios cited a torn wrist ligament as the reasoning with the Aussie ace struggling since returning from knee surgery at Halle.
Perhaps a wise move now not to sell him as a Centre Court attraction on the opening day.

Pegula, Ruud, Fritz, Rublev among pick of the rest

As ever on opening day, there are stories all around SW19 and among those on the outside courts to open feature Jessica Pegula, Casper Ruud, Taylor Fritz and Andrey Rublev.
There is no British representation until we reach Court Two with Daniel Evans and going all the way down to the latter courts include Leylah Fernandez, Victoria Azarenka, Alexander Bublik (the recent Halle winner) as well as Liudmila Samsonova.
Also the retirement of Anett Kontaveit could end the day on Court 15 as the Estonian faces Lucrezia Stefanini in the final match. A potential sad way to go out.
Also on the first few courts include Caroline Garcia, British hope Harriet Dart, Donna Vekic, Daria Kasatkina among others with the other half of the draw set for Tuesday. Set your alarms as the outer courts start at 11am BST.
