Nick Kyrgios was due to open his
Wimbledon campaign on Monday albeit with major doubts about his status given withdrawals since playing in Stuttgart but those doubts have now been answered.
Kyrgios is officially out of this year's Wimbledon, a year on from the best run of his career reaching a maiden Grand Slam final.
Taking to social media, Kyrgios said that it is a torn ligament in his wrist which is the reason which he sustained in the run-up to Mallorca which he withdrew from only last week.
He made it to London and seemed ready albeit undercooked to play, but on the eve of the tournament will not now play at SW19.
"I'm really sad to say that I have to withdraw from Wimbledon this year," said Kyrgios.
"During my comeback, I experienced some pain in my wrist during Mallorca. As a precaution, I had it scanned and it came back showing a torn ligament in my wrist."
"I tried everything to be able to play and I am disappointed to say that I just didn't have enough time to manage it before Wimbledon. I'll be back and as always, I appreciate the support from all my fans."
A player who whoever divisive and a love or hate character in the sport will be massively missed at SW19 with a legion of fans turning out to watch the entertaining Aussie.
Some questioned him being put on Court No.1 on Monday, but he will now not play at all this year and all eyes will now be on the US Open.
He already underwent knee surgery and seemingly with his girlfriend, Costeen Hatzi ready for months away with him on the tour after not playing since November that he will undergo another stint on the sidelines. A far cry from his excellence 12 months ago.
