A lot of conversation surrounding Elina Svitolina potentially reaching the final of Wimbledon surrounded a meeting with Aryna Sabalenka who is currently facing Ons Jabeur.
Svitolina was infamously waited for at the net at Roland Garros by Sabalenka and many have pointed out that with the Princess of Wales handing out the trophy after the final, it would not represent a good image for the tournament if it was a Belarusian winner.
Losing to Marketa Vondrousova, Svitolina can't prevent that but was asked about it with the journalist seemingly pre-empting a Vondrousova - Sabalenka final.
The journalist asked Svitolina in the press conference: “How bad would it look, symbolically, if the Princess of Wales ends up giving the trophy to a Belarusian."
But she snubbed answering it saying that it's not a thought that has crossed her mind anyway. “I didn’t think about this at all. Right now, I’m not in a good state of mind to reply to this question.”
She was also asked for what message her Wimbledon run would send to people all over the world.
“To believe in yourself… in different situations you always need to find a way to fight for your dream. Just continue dreaming & trying to achieve your dream.”
