Iga Swiatek and
Belinda Bencic put forward good performances to reach the Adelaide International semifinals.
Iga Swiatek continued her good run at the Adelaide where she battled past Danielle Collins to reach the semifinal. The match did not finish as Collins retired midway through the 2nd set due to a back injury. The injury clearly bothered Collins throughout the match as she never really got into it trailing for the majority of it. All in all, after battling it for 60 minutes she decided to retire at 2-6 0-3. Swiatek moves on to the semifinals hoping for a final berth.
Belinda Bencic will join Swiatek in the semifinals after defeating native Sanders in straight sets. Bencic has been slowly raising form during the Australian summer and it peaking in Adelaide. From the get-go, the Swiss player had the initiative against the Australian. Sanders held her own for a while but Bencic soon took over the match, winning the opening set 6-2. The difference in quality was evident and Sanders could not do much so she quickly found herself down in the 2nd set as well. In the end, Bencic closed it out with 6-4 in the 2nd.
