Iga Swiatek prved too much for Kasatkina in her first match at the WTA Finals beating the Russian 6-2 6-3.
It was the 5th time they played this year and the fifth time that Swiatek won in straight sets. She played aggressive tennis from the start setting the tone early and never letting go of controlling the match cruising to an easy finish.
After the match, Swiatek looked comfortable with the way she played:
“I think I started pretty well and that gave me a lot of confidence. But on the other hand you have to be really careful and patient against Dasha. I wanted to play in a really solid way but put pressure on my opponent. I did that pretty well and I’m happy about it.”
She now needs only one more win to get into the semi-final and her next opponent is Caroline Garcia, a player who defeated her once this year. It happened in her native Poland on clay which will give Swiatek pause ahead of this match.
She also proved strong in her first match beating Coco Gauff in straight sets.
