Iga Swiatek's 2022 season has been a glorious one in many ways as she achieved several milestones indicating how dominant she was.
Swiatek established herself as the best player in the world following the retirement of Ashleigh Barty in January. She took over the Tour winning several Premier WTA 1000 events including two grand slam events. She won over 30 matches in a row and now she added another brilliant milestone to her career.
She became only the 5th player in the last 40 years to win 14+ consecutive matches against player ranked inside the top 10. The list of players who did it in the past 40 years is a great one and has legendary names that all have a major place in tennis history.
Martina Navratilova did it in 1984 and 1986, and Steffi Graff did it in 1987, 1989, 1993 and 1995). Venus Williams did it in 2001 with Justine Henin doing it in 2007. Interestingly, the list does not feature Serena Williams and the list of things she didn't do in tennis is rather short.
