Iga Swiatek played another Roland Garros match and she won another match, defeating Kostyuk 6-3 6-4.
It was another great match by Swiatek who is through to the Roland Garros quarterfinal with a straight-set win over Kostyuk. The Ukrainian player put up the biggest fight so far against Swiatek and played well for long stretches of the match. The Ukrainian actually broke Swiatek early taking a 2-1 lead but failed to hold onto it in the next game.
It was a lengthy game that lasted well over fives minutes and it was a key one that gave Iga confidence in the rest of the match. Kostyuk had break points at 3-3 as well but Swiatek saved them and broke Kostyuk in the next one to take a 5-3 lead. She then closed the set with 6-3.
The match was filled with longer rallies as Swiatek could not blow her opponent off the court the way she likes to. Kostyuk matched her intensity fairly well but Iga was the more consistent hitter. The 2nd featured a similar thing but it was Swiatek striking early to break Kostyuk. Marta fired back in the next game to make it 2-2.
Few games after that Swiatek once again took the lead with a break and was able to hold on to it in the next game despite Kostyuk forcing a break point. Disheartened with the missed opportunity Kostyuk allowed a break point which was a match point but found a way to save it. In the end, Swiatek closed it out with 6-3.
