Iga Swiatek had a sensational start to her Roland-Garros campaign by defeating her BFF Kaja Juvan 6-0 7-5 in the first round.
The Polish continued her dominant display on clay by defeating Juvan 6-0 6-4 in just over an hour of play. She was dominant from the start and did not allow Juvan to find any rhythm. Every weaker server and every shorter ball were immediately attacked. Swiatek did not commit many unforced errors compared to Juvan.
Juvan tried to match her intensity which was an approach that almost worked in Australia earlier this year when they played three sets. This time around Juvan simply committed too many errors which proved costly.
This continued a great run for Swiatek which started at the Rome Masters that she won. Swiatek gave Pliskova a double bagel in the final shocking the tennis world and while today was not a double bagel it was still an impressive showing.
Juvan put up a great fight in the 2nd set but Swiatek was able to emerge victorious taking the set 7-5. She moves on to R2 of the
French Open where she will play either Rogers or Peterson.
