Iga Swiatek took on
Emma Raducanu for the first time in her career and she proved better than the Brit 6-4 6-4.
Swiatek has been on a tear in the past few weeks dominating players in every match she played. While she was quite convincing in this one as well as the winner never seemed in doubt, it was not the trashing we've come to expect from the Polish player in recent weeks. Raducanu was able to hold up rather well considering the magnitude of the match and her clay inexperience.
Swiatek took an early break in the first set and from there both players were pretty on their own serve. Neither Swiatek nor Raducanu allowed much on serve after that as both served rather well. The first set ended with 6-4 as Swiatek only dropped three points on her own serve while doing just enough on return to get the set.
The start of the 2nd set was quite fun as players traded early breaks which was very interesting to see considering how well Swiatek played in the first set. Raducanu took an MTO but opted to continue playing the match but it was clear she was not 100%. Swiatek took advantage of that taking a 3-1 lead which she would hold for the rest of the match. The final set ended up being 6-4.
