Coco Gauff battled past Petra Martic to reach the Adelaide International quarterfinal and after the match, she spoke to the press.
It was a very tough match for Gauff who lost the opening set against Martic but then rallied to win the next two and advance to the quarterfinals. For Gauff it was a big thing to come back from being down as confidence is key in her game. Speaking to the media she explained how thinking about one match at a time helps her:
"I think I've just been taking it one match at a time, to be honest. I go into every tournament thinking that I can win, and obviously, that's impossible to have a perfect record, but I go into every tournament believing that I can win."
She further continued explaining how thinking about only the next match keeps her grounded and focused and that helps in her game:
"So I try not to think far ahead in the match, at least I just try to focus on my next match, just because you have to get through that before you can get to the finals, and just take it one match at a time."
She will face Shelby Rogers in the next round whom she never faced before and speaking of that she said:
"I've known Shelby for a couple of years now and she lives in the same city as I do, so we practised together a couple of times. I know she's a big hitter and she hits the ball pretty flat, goes for big shots. So we know each other's games pretty well and it will be interesting to see how it goes. I'm just going to go out there and have fun."
