The new 'Meme Queen' Amanda Anisimova celebrates 25th birthday with hilarious surprise by fellow tennis talents

Amanda Anisimova has earned a reputation of late as a 'meme queen.' This is due to numerous moments on court that have gone viral, many of them for comical reasons, and are regularly used on social media. As she celebrated her 25th birthday with a winning start at the US Open, Mirra Andreeva and Daria Kasatkina both used this opportunity to decorate her locker with many of her memorable moments.

There has been countless times where the American has been clipped up for doing something which is either bizarre or funny on court and tennis fans on social media leap right onto them. There is a range of examples that have occurred these past couple of years as Anisimova enjoyed a turbulent yet triumphant rise to the top of tennis.

In doing so, she seems to pull a lot of faces on court whether that is holding back emotions or getting annoyed and frustrated about her level on the court. A certain racket meltdown in Dubai earlier this year where she struggled to get it into the bag is another golden moment that did the rounds.

One of the most recent ones was when the TV cameras caught her seemingly drinking a beer while sitting down, but the liquid inside the plastic cup turned out to be a Red Bull. All sorts of unique poses as well showcase Anisimova's expressive manner on court, taking everyone with her on the ride as she shows her raw emotions, preferring to let them out than keeping them bottled inside.

It has really come to light how many there have been in recent times, brewing up Anisimova's new tag as the 'meme queen.' Andreeva and Kasatkina were not going to let this opportunity slide. They posed next to the two-time Grand Slam finalists locker with pictures of her most well-known memes covering it. They wished her a happy birthday with Anisimova finding the funny side of it as she posted a video to her Instagram story of her newly decorated scenery.

After her 6-1, 6-3 win over Ashlyn Krueger in the first round of the US Open, she told reporters: "Their selfie was really cute. When I saw them taking a picture in front of it, I thought it was really sweet, and it made me laugh. Those two are great and it's always fun to be around them."

It has taken some time for Anisimova to come around and enjoy these moments she produce on court. While sometimes pictured in a period of turmoil and frustration, there is a humorous side to it that she can now start to see the positives of.

Speaking before the tournament on media day, she divulged this topic. "Sometimes my friend is like, 'I saw you across my Instagram, like, 50 times today, but I don't know why.'" she said. "Yeah, I definitely see them and they're very entertaining and very funny. But I didn't always think that, because I've definitely always been very expressive and an emotional player, and I make all kinds of faces that I didn't even know my face could possibly make."

This is not only a recent thing, it has occurred throughout her whole career going back to when she was just a teenager playing at the 2017 French Open. "I was mortified," she said after a number of pictures had been making the rounds of her on social media.

"I told myself, 'Oh my God, this is awful. I can never make these faces again. I'm never going to do it again.' But here we are today. I just can't help it. It's who I am. Yeah, now I'm able to find them entertaining and hilarious, but at the time, when I was a teenager, I really felt that was quite awful."

Anisimova gave herself the perfect birthday present with that commanding win over fellow American Krueger. Dropping just four games in a commanding showing, she battled through with a big campaign ahead.

After reaching the final last year, there is a lot of pressure to repeat those fortunes and recuperate those points that are on the line. Starting the tournament 10th in the WTA Rankings, Anisimova could fall out of it if she is unable to go on a deep run.

There is also the added pressure of a China Open title defence coming up on the horizon with her chances of returning to the WTA Finals after her semi-final run last year awfully slim. She will just focus on the task at hand at Flushing Meadows with 18-year-old Lilli Tagger her second round opponent.
