Pam Shriver has warned that not all players fully recover from long-term injury layoffs as Emma Raducanu continues to make her return to tennis.
Raducanu made her comeback to the court in January at the ASB Classic after over eight months away. The Brit has suffered from various injuries since winning the US Open in 2021, namely with her foot and wrist, and has undergone three surgeries.
"I find this era of tennis so demanding on the joints," Shriver said. "I want to see how she stands up to the test of time. There is history that shows some players never fully regain their form, but all indications are Raducanu is fully motivated to become a successful player again."
Raducanu has won three of her seven matches so far in 2024 and was given a wildcard to compete in the upcoming Indian Wells. 22-time doubles Grand Slam winner Shriver believes there is still time for the 21-year-old to recapture her form.
"Even though we’re going on more than two years since winning the US Open, that run should give her confidence she can compete with the best players in the world when healthy."
