Britain’s
Emma Raducanu believes that there is a lot of room
to improve her service. The 21-year-old was once regarded as one of the most
promising player playing in women’s tennis in the singles category, especially
when she lifted the US Open title at the age of 18 back in 2021.
The most impressive aspect of that win was the fact that Raducanu
started the campaign through the qualifying round but still managed to go all
the way and secure the title after beating Canada’s Leylah Fernandez in the
final in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-3. Since then, not much has gone
right for Raducanu as she has consistently struggled with fitness concerns. Raducanu
returned to the court earlier this year after spending nearly 12 months on the
sidelines but has struggled to produce positive results consistently. The
Toronto-born star is currently in Malaga to represent her country in the Billie
Jean King Cup. The team-based women’s competition is underway in Spain where
some of the best players in the world are showcasing their talent.
Raducanu has recently been quoted in a report by the English
media outlet Daily Express, where she talked about her season. The one-time Grand
Slam winner stated that she is happy with her overall season but believes that her
service has a lot of room for improvement next year.
“Physically I felt quite good especially as I haven’t played
a match for so long,” she said. “It was a good test for me and I am very happy
with the way I held my nerve. I have obviously been working a little bit in
practice on my serve and it was very good in patches but there is still room
for improvement. I am looking forward to just seeing the areas I can take from
this match and work on in my pre-season and be ready for next year.”
