The WTA took a very harsh and brave stance in light of the
Peng Shuai situation with the latest action being pulling out all events from China.
It's a move that made shockwaves in the tennis community with many players especially WTA applauding the move. It's a bold move by the WTA considering the amount of money involved and the numerous events in China held every year including the WTA Finals.
Andy Roddick is one of the players who applauded the move explaining it as the right one.
In Tweet he wrote:
"There are a lot of organizations who can afford to do something like this a lot more than the WTA can ……. Respect. Doing the right thing is a lot easier when there aren’t associated costs. I continue to be proud to be in the tennis orbit."
The ATP has not officially backed the decision yet and seems unlikely to do the same which is a shame as there have been many ATP players calling for the organizations to do the same in order to protect the tennis community as one entity. WTA chief Steve Simona called the decision a regrettable but necessary one as the organization must show that the safety and well-being of its player are more important than other things.
