Ukraine's number one tennis player
Elina Svitolina gave an interview to Sky News in Britain about what has been happening in her native country of Ukraine.
Svitolina's native city of Odessa has been under shelling since the Russian invasion started a few days ago and the Ukrainian players reflect on what has been going in. Her form has been very shaky this season which is probably closely related to the troubling news coming out of her country for the past few months.
Speaking to Sky News, Svitolina said:
"I'm shocked still in this terrible nightmare of what's happening in Ukraine. I'm really praying every single minute for my family for my friends for all people in Ukraine and around the world for safety, for peace."
Svitolina also revealed that she is in regular contact with close family and friends who are all still within Ukraine as she is from Odessa, one of the cities under heavy fire from the start of it. She also said:
"It's really stressful for me because I can not do anything. I can not go and help them. I wish I could help him. I can't even imagine what they are going through"
Svitolina finished off with:
"It's something that's bigger than everything. It's war, it's the people and we have to stop it."
