"This is not a coat of arms, not a flag": RTF President left surprised at Potapova receiving formal warning for Spartak shirt

The president of the Russian Tennis Federation was left surprised by the WTA formally warning Anastasia Potapova for wearing a Spartak shirt to a court.

Tarpischev has made very interesting comments in the past, particularly since the invasion and he reacted to the WTA issuing a formal warning to Potapova for wearing a Spartak Moscow jersey on a tennis court before the match. It's not the first time we saw that as Azarenka sported a PSG jersey a couple of times earlier this year in a similar manner.

Asked about Russian media about the situation, he commented:

"I haven’t heard that you can’t go out [in a club jersey]. But if you don’t like the WTA, let them put on a different jersey next time. It’s okay."

The WTA only reacted after Iga Swiatek spoke out publicly against it admitting to being shocked how it was allowed to happen. There was no reaction to it by the WTA before those comments. It's unclear whether they would have reacted because Potapova did the same in Dubai albeit not before an official match.

She defender her actions calling it simply a love for her favourite club as opposed to any provocative intent.
