The 2009 WTA season was a memorable one for Serena Williams as she finished the year ranked World No.1 in singles and World No.3 in doubles, alongside older sister Venus Williams.
Furthermore, Serena won two Grand Slam singles titles and three Grand Slam doubles titles with Venus in 2009, cementing her legacy as the greatest player of her generation. The pair also competed against each other in several finals, with the last being at the WTA Finals in Doha.
After being drawn into the same group during the round robin stage, Serena defeated her sister in three close sets. However, both still qualified for the knockout stage and met again in the final.
Having just secured the year-ending World No.1 ranking, Serena was able to defeat her sister in straight sets, claiming her 35th title in the process.
