World No.11 Belinda Bencic stated that she would love to represent Switzerland alongside compatriot Roger Federer at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Having paired with Federer in the past during the 2018 and 2019 Hopman Cup, the duo emerged victorious on both occasions. However, they've never had the opportunity to play together at the Olympics.
"I'm ready, it's just up to Roger now," said Bencic in an interview with Aargauer Zeitung. "Nothing has been decided yet, everything is still very far away for me, but in addition to the Grand Slam tournaments, the Olympic Games remains one of my big goals - in singles and maybe also in mixed."
The 23-year old reached a WTA career-high ranking of World No.4 in February, a few months after reaching her maiden Grand Slam semifinal at the 2019 US Open. Conversely, Federer was forced to miss the bulk of the 2020 season after undergoing two knee surgeries but is set to return at the 2021 Australian Open next February.
"If we stay healthy, I would like to compete with Roger," Bencic added.
