Federer confirms he will likely return at the Australian Open with "I'm on track"

Roger Federer gave an update to his recovery by saying that he was on track which means he plans to make his return at the Australian Open as he hoped initially.

Roger Federer has been absent from the tennis courts for a very long time and while any tennis fans long for his return he is determined not to rush things. Even so, he gave a positive update regarding his recovery. Speaking with the Schweizer Illustrierte he said:

“I’m on the right track, I’m gradually coming back, but don’t put any pressure on myself and will take my time."

While the careful tone of this sentence indicates that Federer wants to do the right thing and come back when he is totally ready he did say he was on track. His initial plan was to return at the Australian Open and by saying he was on track it seems that that possibility is more than just a mere possibility.

He even said as much himself:

“I will only enter a tournament when I am one hundred per cent fit. It currently looks like I can make my comeback at the Australian Open in January.”

Those are very good news for Federer fans and general tennis fans as well who enjoy watching good matches. He concluded the interview by saying what his recovery process looks like:

“[Hitting] more than two hours with the racket are not possible at the moment. But I’ve been working on my stamina and strength and I have been absolutely painlessly for a while. There will be no further operations.”
