Andy Murray names tendonitis as reason why he withdrew from the bett1HULKS Championships in Cologne

Andy Murray pulled out of the bett1HULKS Championships in Cologne due to an unspecified injury but now he named tendonitis as the culprit.

Andy Murray had to withdraw from the bett1HULKS Championships in Cologne due to an injury. He played last week in the other Cologne event losing to Fernando Verdasco in the first round. Now he posted a message update on his social media giving fans insight into what caused the withdrawal. He said:

"Hi everyone. I just want to send you a quick message. I've been dealing with tendonitis in my psoas which has kind of been on and off since the US Open."

The psoas is a muscle that connects the lower back to the upper leg. His message continued:

"I've been trying to deal with it in training, and in the matches, and unfortunately after my match here this week it's flared up again. I've been practising the last few days and trying to manage it, but after playing some points today, I decided that it was not going to be good enough to play."

His explanation was that during the practice he felt it again and after playing a few points simply decided it was not worth it. He thanked the organizers for allowing him to compete here and signed off with a simple: "I will see you on the courts soon."

He didn't say how long his recovery will take but we hope to see Andy very quickly on the courts again. The season is slowly coming to an end so perhaps this was the last we see of Andy on the court this year.
