Bianca Andreescu is enjoying a stellar week in Miami and the Canadian player is happy to finally see results.
Bianca Andreescu is in the
Miami Open quarterfinals after a sensational comeback victory against Garbine Muguruza. Bibi, as she is popularly called is officially back having missed a large chunk of the 2020 season rehabbing from a knee injury. After the match the Canadian said:
"It was really tough. She started out playing really, really well. I don't think I was at the level I wanted to be right at the start of the match, because I knew she was going to come out really, really strong, and that's what she did. But I had to re-adapt, which I did in the second set. I regrouped. I kept fighting. I changed my game plan a little bit as well. And it worked."
It looked quite grim for Andreescu when she lost the opening set and then faced two break points at 1-1 in the 2nd set. But she was able to come back due to starting to play more consistent:
"I felt like at the beginning I wasn't as consistent. She was just playing really, really well, as well, on top of that."
In the end, it was more than enough to snap Muguruza's 8-match winning streak to which the Spaniard in defeat said that it was a very tight match that she could have won. Indeed it was but that's tennis. Andreescu will get to play Sorribes Tormo in the next round who is also on a red-hot tear as of late. On that match she said:
"I have seen her play. I know she gets to a lot of balls. She has a very heavy spinny ball. She's a crazy fighter. I want to go out there and fight even harder and hopefully, I can do good things."
