Ashleigh Barty was able to overcome an inspired Zidansek at the Madrid Open securing an R3 spot.
It was far from an easy match as Barty had to go to three sets in order to move past Zidansek. She did not serve well in this match and committed a lot of errors which she admitted after the match:
"A really tough match. I felt my margins were a little bit off today. Made a lot of errors. I think I was missing in the right way, but still, just a foot or two here or there makes a big difference. I felt like there were probably too many loose ones for me today."
Barty held her composure in key moments and played her best tennis in the 3rd set when it mattered the most. Her composure was even more impressive considering she lost the 2nd set with 6-1. Speaking about the closely contested match she said:
"I don't think there was a lot in it by any means. We had a lot of close games in the first set, early in the second set. In the third, as well, there were a lot of close games. I think the response early in the third was good. I was a bit more aggressive, was able to bring the match back on my terms."
It won't get any easier for Barty who will face reigning Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek in the next round.
