Tennis fans have noticed a trend with former Australian Open winners joking that Aryna Sabalenka will miss next year's event due to pregnancy.
Aryna Sabalenka won the 2023 Australian Open by beating Elena Rybakina in the final and tennis fans are wondering if she'll continue an interesting trend with recent champions. Chatter on Twitter started when it was observed that all champions since 2016 are either currently pregnant or won it while being pregnant.
Kerber won it in 2016 and she's currently pregnant, Williams won it in 2017 while she was pregnant. Wozniacki won it in 2018 and she recently gave birth. Naomi Osaka won it in 2019 and 2021 and she's currently pregnant. Barty won last year and she's currently pregnant. It made tennis fans wonder and joke if Sabalenka will follow in that regard and possibly miss next year due to pregnancy.
Another fan noted in the comments that Capriati and Kenin are the only former champions in the past 26 years that don't have kids or are not pregnant. A very interesting stat.
