Ukraine’s tennis star
Elina Svitolina was spotted with a
foot cast after withdrawing from the Cincinnati Open (Western and Southern Open).
The 28-year-old withdrew from the tournament taking place in
Cincinnati after suffering pain in her foot.
A picture appeared on social media showing Svitolina wearing
a foot cast as she is looking to recover from the mega-event.
The former world number three shared a long post on her official
Twitter account where she stated optimism of returning to action in the very
near future.
“Unfortunately I have been experiencing some foot pain since
Wimbledon,” she wrote in a post on her official Twitter account. “I was advised
to have a scan after Montreal which has shown some issues that need addressing and
resting.
"So I am unable to play in Cincinnati this year. I am
really disappointed to pull out anywhere but I love the fans in Cincy and love
playing in front of them which makes it extra hard but I have to take the
medical advice I have been given. I will do my best to rest and recover in time
for the US Open now. Thank you for your understanding.”
Svitolina has an impressive record while playing at the US Open
where she played the semifinal in 2019 but lost to the former world number one
America’s Serena Williams with a score of 6-3, 6-1.
