Ajla Tomljanovic is seemingly unable to play well unless she's at a grand slam as the Aussie was beaten by Bogdan in Portoroz 7-5 4-6 6-1.
The match was a very competitive one but Tomljanovic left many chances on the table in this one. She did catch Bogdan on a day where the Romanian produced a very high level, probably one higher than she generally plays at but she was also unable to solve the issues in her own game.
One major one in that regard is her serve and she certainly did not serve as well as she can in this one. Bogdan return well and served better than Tomljanovic which was a problem all match long. Tomljanovic saved early break points in the first set and actually jumped ahead 5-3 later on.
She failed to use a set point at 5-3 and dropped her serve when serving for the first set at 5-4 losing the set 5-7. It was a poor stretch for her as she completely lost confidence towards the end of the set. The second set was much better by Tomljanovic but she once again had issues on her own serve. The first break was squandered but the 2nd one was finally used to take the est 6-4.
In the final one, Tomljanovic jumped out to an early break 1-0 but dropped her serve in the very next game. She then completely fell apart to drop the final set 1-6. A very poor display from Tomljanovic who is enjoying a solid season overall.
