Former champion
Venus Williams was named as a wildcard recipient for the 2021
Wimbledon Championships, as the tournament organizers released the initial list of wildcards on Wednesday.
The American has won the singles title on five occasions, with an additional six doubles titles at the grass-court major. However, she turns 41 this month and has seen her WTA ranking drop to World No.103.
Williams has struggled to find her form this season, as she has not progressed past the opening round of any tournament since reaching the second round of the
Australian Open in February.
Nonetheless, the seven-time Grand Slam singles titlist will be reaching another career milestone, as she competes in the singles draw 21 years after winning her first Wimbledon title in 2000.
