Barbie dolls are set to honour a host of athletes, including the former world number one, Venus Williams. The fashion dolls, created by American businesswoman Ruth Handler, have been manufactured by the American company Mattel. They are one of the most famous dolls in the toy industry and have been around for more than six decades.
As per the latest report, Barbie dolls are set to honour nine athletes in their upcoming series. The list also features the former world number one in the women’s singles category Venus Williams. The 43-year-old was also quoted in the report where she expressed delight about the development. "Throughout my career, I've always been driven by the idea of shattering glass ceilings and staying true to myself, and Barbie's mission couldn't resonate more deeply with that ethos," she said.
Williams remained under the shadow of her sister Serena, who is often regarded as the greatest player in the history of women’s tennis in the singles category as she lifted 23 Grand Slam titles. However, Venus’ record is not a bad one as she herself won seven major titles in her career, including five Wimbledon titles. That’s not it as she also won an Olympic gold for her country in the 2000 after defeating Russia’s Elena Dementieva in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-4.
