France winning in Germany? 👀 🇫🇷 @alizecornet overcomes Andreescu 7-6(2), 7-5 to reach the last eight at the #bett1open!
Bianca Andreescu was upset at the bett1 Open in Berlin by Alize Cornet and the French players shared what allowed her to cause the major shock.
Bianca Andreescu is still labouring and fighting her way to the top of tennis after several injuries that derailed her comeback. The Canadian is yet to find the form which propelled her to the top of the US Open and it did not go well at the bett1 Open.
She was bested by a very motivated Alize Cornet who does not count grass as a surface she likes. Even so, the French veteran said after the upset:
"I was very motivated today, I really wanted this match. I had great sensations in my first round already. Today, especially in the beginning of the match, I was playing very well. But you know Bianca, she's fighting til the end - she came back and I got pretty tight."
Cornet had an early lead in both sets but Andreescu came back in both sets. The 2nd one was especially close as Cornet did not play too well at the end. On that she said:
"Emotionally it was tough - she was playing better and better and I was having less intention. But it was good, I got myself together at 5-4 and I really tried to stay focused on what I have to do, and in the end, it was 7-5."
