It was a huge relief when Maria Sakkari won the final point of her match against Begu in the St. Petersburg semifinal.
The Greek player arrived at the event as the top seed and truth to that, she will contest the final for the trophy. Getting there was a lot of work for her especially in her latest match against Begu. The Greek won a dramatic first set only to lose the 2nd and trail 2-4 in the final one. She came back to win and it's a huge relief for her.
Speakin after she said:
"It was a very tough match. I think Begu played really well. The level of the match was super-high. I had to come up with some very tough shots and very physical tennis, but I am super excited to be in the final here. It’s one of my favourite tournaments."
In order to win the trophy, she will need to go through Anett Kontaveit, a player that has not lost a final in a while. Sakkari is not afraid of the matchup saying that she will try her best to win it:
"I am just very excited that I was able this year to reach the final. I still have one more match to go, and I am going to try my best to win the tournament."
