Max Eisenbud tried to convince the former world number one
Russia’s
Maria Sharapova to return to tennis.
The 36-year-old announced retirement from professional
tennis in February 2020, bringing an end to a successful career.
In a video appeared on social media, a fan asked
Sharapova that whether she missed competing on the court.
Before she could respond, Eisenbud, who was sitting next to
her, stated that he missed watching her play and that maybe she should come back and
try it again.
The Nyagan-born ended her illustrious career winning 36
titles in total, including five Grand Slams.
Her first victory in any of the major events came in 2004 at
Wimbledon where she defeated the former world number one America’s Serena
Williams in the final with a score of 6-1, 6-4.
Her last big title came in the year 2014 in the French Open
when she got the better of the former world number one Romania’s Simona Halep
with a score of 6-4, 6-7, 6-4. It was her second title at the Roland Garros.
Interestingly, despite winning just five major titles
in her career, Sharapova completed the Career Grand Slam after winning all four
big competitions, something a lot of big-name players failed to achieve the
feat.
She won the Australian Open in 2008 after beating Serbia’s Ana
Ivanovic in the final with a score of 7-5, 6-3 whereas she won the US Open in
2006 after defeating Belgium’s Justine Henin in the final with a score of 6-4,
6-4.
