Garcia displayed some great sportsmanship against Baptiste. The umpire was going to give the point to Caroline, bc she didn’t think Hailey had a play on Caroline’s shot. Caro tells the umpire they should replay the point. Classy, Caro. ❤️
French tennis star Caroline Garcia showed great sportsmanship during her Guadalajara Open clash against America’s Hailey Baptiste.
The two faced off in the round of 16 tie in the competition where the 29-year-old came out on top in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-4.
During the sixth game of the second set, the chair umpire was about to give Garcia a point but she showed great sportsmanship and asked the match official to review the point before giving the final decision.
Garcia is now set to face off the winner of the match between the former world number one Victoria Azarenka and Russia’s Veronika Kudermetova in the quarterfinal.
The Saint-Germain-en-Laye-born will be hoping to finish the season on a high and continue her winning run in the ongoing competition.
Garcia’s overall performance in the year does not make a pretty reading as she failed to play in the quarterfinal or beyond in any of the Grand Slams.
Her most impressive outing in any of the major events came in the Australian Open earlier this year where she was knocked out after losing to Poland’s Magda Linette in the fourth round in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-4.
