Naomi Osaka has vowed to film happy moments again after she took a trip down memory lane and realized that she filmed a lot of videos of herself laughing in the past.
Four-time Grand Slam champion Osaka has been absent from the WTA Tour this season as she gave birth to her first child Shai with rapper Cordae. While she is aiming to return to competition in 2024, the 25-year-old revealed another goal that she is setting herself, which is to film more videos of herself laughing and not being afraid to post them.
In a post on her Instagram story, the Japanese player claimed that she used to be a lot more carefree and suggested that she wanted to be like that again.

Osaka inspired by old videos

"So I was randomly going through my old videos and I was kinda shocked how many laughing vids I took lol. I realized I filmed a lot more videos laughing and smiling in the past and I'm making it a goal to film again and not be so scared to post," she wrote.
The tennis star has struggled with the heavy demands of the media that come with being a top-ranked professional tennis player. At the 2019 French Open, she refused to participate in the mandatory press conferences.
"I'm not going to do any press during Roland Garros. I've often felt that people have no regard for athletes' mental health... We've often sat there and been asked questions that we've been asked multiple times or asked questions that bring doubt in our minds and I'm just not going subject myself to people that doubt me," she wrote on Twitter at the time.
Osaka seems to be in a better place now but has opened up on her worries in the past. In 2021, she said that she felt "ungrateful" for not enjoying her life as a tennis player more.
"I was thinking waking up every day, for me, I should feel like I'm winning. Like, the choice to go out there and play, to go see fans is an accomplishment. I'm not sure when along the way I started desensitizing to that... I felt like I was very ungrateful for that," she said.
However, she now seems motivated and excited to return to the sport, with her aim being to come back at the Australian Open in January 2024.
"I'm definitely going to perform well and be a better player than I have been last year. For me, my results just made me want to try harder and be the best that I can be. I’ll be competing in Australia next year," she said in an interview earlier this year.
