A familiar face joined Poland’s
Iga Swiatek as she prepared for the
French Open 2025. The second Grand Slam of the year will begin in less than two weeks, and players from all over the world will participate
to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize.
According to a video released on the social media platform X — previously known as Twitter — Swiatek was joined by her former coach, Piotr Sierzputowski. The move can be seen as important for the former world number one, who will be defending her title this year in Paris, which she won
last year after beating Italy’s Jasmine Paolini in the final in straight sets
with a score of 6-2, 6-1.
Swiatek is going through a difficult time, according to her high standards. The 23-year-old has not won a single WTA title or a Grand
Slam since lifting the title at Roland Garros last year. This year, the Warsaw-born star has played in eight competitions but has not managed to cement a spot in the final of any competition. In that duration, Swiatek played in four semifinals but suffered defeat on every occasion.
The five-time Grand Slam winner’s most recent outing was at
the Rome Open, where she suffered a defeat in the second round to America’s
Danielle Collins in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 7-5. Talking after the
match, Swiatek admitted that there must be something that she is doing wrong, which needs to be corrected if she wants to have a good outing at the French
Open.
“I think I was not there, not on the court to fight, to
struggle,” she said. “I focused on my mistakes, that's my mistake. I'm not
doing things right. I'm focusing on the wrong things. I need to find myself and
change some things- I have sought some advice from the team, we came to certain
conclusions, so I'm just going to try to change my state of mind over the next
few weeks. It would be stupid to wait too long at Roland Garros, because I'm
not capable of playing my game right now."
