A superb contest at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix ended in unfortunate circumstances as Paula Badosa again was subject to injury woes that left her retiring in floods of tears in Stuttgart against her best friend, Aryna Sabalenka.
Badosa battled back from a set down clinching the second 6-4. The decider was locked in at 3-3 with a thrilling conclusion likely but this is when disaster struck. Instead of her usual back issue, Badosa injured her left thigh forcing her to retire from the match. The 26-year-old initially kept a brave face to the matter as she shared an embrace with Sabalenka. But she soon broke down sobbing in the World No.2's arms.
After an injury plagued season since Roland Garros last year, it is yet another iteration of Badosa's injuries rearing their head at the worst time.
