Former world number one Serena Williams’ ex-coach Rick Macci
believes that Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz and Italy’s
Jannik Sinner will form the ‘Big
2’ in the coming years. Both players are regarded as two of the best players
currently playing in the men’s singles category.
Alcaraz has already won the Grand Slam two times whereas
Sinner won the first Grand Slam of this year — the Australian Open — after beating
Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 3-6,
3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. Macci was recently quoted in a report where he backed both players
to dominate men’s tennis in the coming years and also suggested that the ‘sky
is the limit’ for them.
"I think Sinner and Alcaraz and there will be a few
more that will enter the mix, but I can see them dominating tennis for a long
time,” he said. “It will be the big two, then someone will enter the mix for
sure. They (Alcaraz and Sinner) now believe and if you believe you will achieve
and I definitely think both of them will be double figure grand slam winners.
So the sky is the limit for both these guys and what's great about it, they're
going to keep pushing each other and that's how you get better because
competition makes you a better competitor."
