German tennis star
Eva Lys won one of the most freakish
points during her first-round clash at the
China Open.
The 21-year-old suffered an opening-round exit from the
competition after losing to Latvia’s Jeļena Ostapenko with a score of 2-6, 6-3,
6-2.
In the third game of the second set, Lys won an incredible point
as the ball changed its direction after hitting the net.
The current world number 122 will be bitterly disappointed after
suffering a defeat despite beating the likes of the 2021 US Open finalist Canada’s
Leylah Fernandez in the qualifier.
Despite the result, Lys will be hoping that the experience of
playing in such competitions will help her perform better at the highest level
next year.
The Kyiv-born played in the main round of the two Grand
Slams this year but failed to qualify for the third round or beyond.
In the Australian Open, Lys suffered a defeat in the first
round to Spain’s Cristina Bucsa with a score of 2-6, 6-0, 6-2.
In the recently
concluded US Open, she lost to Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti in the second round in
straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
